Headline: West Sonoma 1- 1/2 acre plots with Abundant Water

Pepper Lane Farm near Petaluma is still looking for farmers to adopt some of our fields and help us form a small farm community.

We will do a barter arrangement for land management (e.g. periodic irrigation and fencing maintenance, mowing, or carpentry, etc) and/or small crop share. We have a new greenhouse for seed starts, several fields with gentle slope, excellent soil and abundant potable water, a 1/4 acre unused leachfield suitable for flowers or shallow-root non-edibles, and 600 linear ft of terraces that need cultivation. Seasonal grazing also welcome.(We have apple and olive orchards and heirloom tomatoes in production onsite now).

Please contact me at if you have experience, funding/equipment for your own operation and community spirit. (Sorry, no housing available at this time).

Headline: Three Roosters free to a good home

I have three young adult Americano roosters needing a good home. They can go individually or as a group. This breed has blue or rust colored eggs from the hens. (They're teenagers, so to speak, in the photo but have full plumage now.)

Headline: Citizen Science: Free Egg Testing

Request to you:
If you have egg laying chickens, this is the project for you. Watch the video and send in a couple of eggs to UC Davis or drop them off at UCCE Sonoma office!*
Please spread the word to anyone and everyone in California!
What the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine will do:
There is concern about backyard chickens ingesting contaminants from the ground and transmitting these to their eggs. UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine is interested in testing eggs from backyard flocks for various contaminants from recent fires and the environment. Results will be shared individually with each owner, and cumulative results will be summarized and made available to the general public.

For more information on the project, as well as more detailed instructions and examples of how to pack and ship 2-4 eggs, check the UCCE Poultry website.

Headline: Spent hens

we have approximately 75 spent hens for sale, mostly dual purpose breeds...could be great for stewing hens or soup stock. Please make an offer, looking to get rid of them for cheap...willing to trade for something. Hens are about 2.5 years old, still laying but not as productive as they once were...could make great pets too!

I’ve been checking out the sacramento Craigslist farm and garden section regularly and am seeing someone advertise almost daily looking for spent hens. Check it out.

Headline: Urgent: Flock of sheep needs home

We have been asked to leave our land - it is very hard time for us. We had several options to move our small flock of sheep, however they have all fallen through (and at the very last minute, of course). We desperately need a home for a breeding flock of 7 ewes, 1 ram, and a few little lambies. We also have 8 rams good for meat, or to start your own flock with!

We really need to move them THIS WEEKEND - we have fencing and supplies that we could offer as well. We'd ideally like some sort of compensation, but at this point we just need to move them ASAP. We are in Pinole, we can deliver anywhere within 1-2 hours.

Headline: Hair sheep ewes need a new home

I have a flock of 7 ewes who need to be re-homed as I'm moving my farming operation to another property and can't take them with me. I usually breed in late August (for late January/ early February lambs) so hopefully they'll be settled in with a new beau by then.
I also have 9 lambs (6 months old), at least three of which I want to keep to grow out a bit more, and am open to selling live or keeping til harvest the other 6. Ewe lambs could be bred or used for meat, boys are wethered and ready for the freezer when they are done growing. I usually harvest when they're 15 or 16 months when grass dries up the following spring since we use them for mowing. But they're ready to go earlier than that if you have a different management idea. A few of them are pretty well grown up right now.
As for the ewes, they vary in age (1, 2, 3, 3, 4, 4, 6 years) and are all healthy self sufficient mamas. All but the 6-yr old,
