Subject: School of Adaptive Agriculture is now accepting applications for the 2018 Spring & Summer Terms

Are you seeking hands on experience with sustainable, community driven agriculture? Are you curious and inspired to learn about the science, art, and business of food production?
The School of Adaptive Agriculture is located on a diverse working ranch that is fertile ground for innovative, creative, and productive projects. Every year the SAA hosts two 3 month residential programs in which we provide comprehensive training in animal husbandry, vegetable production, orchard management, and grain and seed production. As we understand that a farmer must be as self-sufficient as possible in order to succeed, we also provide instruction in small engine repair, carpentry, electricity and plumbing, as well as business and financial planning. Field trips to dozens of outstanding farms in this rich agricultural area and practice in community dynamics round out this intensive, exhilarating, and unique training

Subject: Make sure your farm or ranch is counted! - USDA Ag Census through June...

"NASS conducts a census of all agricultural operations every 5 years. We need to know about all types of agricultural operations of all sizes. Producers who are new to farming or did not receive a Census of Agriculture in 2012 still have time to receive the 2017 Census of Agriculture report form here, or by visiting http://www.agcensus.usda.gov and clicking ‘Make Sure You Are Counted’ through June. NASS defines a farm as any place from which $1,000 or more of agricultural products were produced and sold, or normally would have been sold, during the census year (2017)."

The Farmers Guild is working in partnership with the Grange to build a scholarship fund to to sustain sustainable agriculture by offering financial assistance to farmers and ranchers for continued education in the fields of land stewardship, animal husbandry, marketing, soil science, business planning, water conservation and other skills that promote their success as food producers.

We're building a list of educational programs, conferences, and other continuing education opportunities that support this goal, and we're looking for your suggestions.

What would you like to do if you had some extra support? Please share what programs that you think should be included in the list in the comments section!

Slow Food USA is accepting applications for Terra Madre 2014 delegates! The deadline to apply is March 23rd.

This year, the theme of Terra Madre and Salone del Gusto is food diversity as an alternative to industrial agriculture, especially as expressed through Slow Food’s Ark of Taste and Presidia projects . The events also will closely coordinate with the International Year of the Family Farmer. The Slow Food USA delegation will celebrate the immense human and cultural diversity present in the US. Thus farmers and producers of Ark of Taste products, as well as people of color, youth, immigrants and native peoples, are especially encouraged to apply.

California will be nominating 20 delegates. The benefits of being a delegate include free admission, housing, food, and ground transportation during the event, as well as an opportunity to showcase your work at Slow Food USA-sponsored booths and events.
