California Organic Seed Entrepreneurship Intensive – 1st day, ends 4/18

04/01/21, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Today, more than ever, there is a large and growing demand for organic seed. This presents an opportunity for anyone who wants to create or expand their organic seed business. The Organic Seed Entrepreneurship Intensive was created to meet this demand. Join with world-class experts as you learn critical business skills while you develop your seed business plan.

Organic products have seen double-digit growth over the last 20 years and organic crop producers need organic seed. Many farmers still cannot access the quantities and types of organic seed they need, and a large portion of organic farmers still obtain about half of their seed from conventional sources. This represents a critical need and an opportunity. In the past year, the COVID crisis has re-ignited a passion for gardening and healthy organic food. Last spring many retail seed companies had been reporting 2 to 10 times the sales compared to previous years, a trend that appears to be continuing as we come into 2021. In response, there is a large demand from seed companies for more organic seed producers. For all these reasons, right now presents an opportunity for anyone with a vision to take a leap in beginning or expanding organic seed production or sales.

The Organic Seed Entrepreneurship Intensive is intended to provide tools, training, expertise, and individualized support to qualified candidates. This intensive will be led by entrepreneurship expert William Rosenzweig, Co-Chair of the Sustainable Food Initiative at Berkeley Haas School of Business. Will is joined by a team of organic seed experts from Organic Seed Alliance, leading organic seed companies, and successful organic seed farmers. The intensive will be conducted virtually over two consecutive weekends and culminate with a strategic planning session where participants have the opportunity to workshop their business plan with a skilled entrepreneurship educator. Accepted candidates can expect entrepreneurial insight, individualized support, expertise, and industry navigation.
